What does SER tutoring cost?

SER’s public tutor page says cost depends on frequency, duration and the learner’s needs, with a quote after the initial consultation. This guide does not publish a verified standard tutoring rate or introductory package. Ask for the current written offer rather than relying on an older promotion.

A free consultation is a conversation about goals, fit and the process. It is not a free tutoring session, automatic enrollment or a completed individualized plan. SER provides live one-on-one online instruction with tutors certified in special education; matching and later instructional work help shape the plan.

Get a quote you can actually compare

A session price alone does not describe the financial commitment. Request the session duration, proposed frequency, billing period and any separate charges in writing. Also ask what happens when the learner is ill, the tutor cancels or you want to stop. These are questions to clarify, not statements of SER’s current terms.

Use the same comparison period for every provider. An illustrative calculation is: agreed session price multiplied by the number of paid sessions in that period, plus any confirmed separate charges. For a package, check the total charge, included sessions, expiration and renewal terms instead. No example price or session length is implied.

• Instruction: one-on-one or group, subject focus and relevant educator experience.
• Commitment: what is paid now, what recurs and whether renewal is automatic.
• Included support: materials, discovery work and progress communication; identify anything billed separately.
• Changes: cancellation notice, missed-session charges, rescheduling, refunds and unused sessions.
• Practical costs: required technology and any adult setup or participation time.

A free New Mexico library option for academic questions

New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs identifies El Portal as free to access from computers in New Mexico and as the entry point for Brainfuse tutoring. The State Library lists HelpNow homework help and live tutoring for K–12 students. Roswell Public Library also describes introductory college and adult learner support.

Start with the official El Portal instructions and check the current subject coverage, login requirements and live hours. If access fails, use the library’s assistance route. We have not tested a live tutoring session. These sources do not establish an ongoing special-education educator match or a dysgraphia-specific program.

Compare school and adult education routes too

For a school-age learner, ask the teacher or school support team what instruction is already available and what concern remains unresolved. Ask about the actual service, eligibility and schedule rather than assuming that every school offers an after-school tutor. Private tutoring is not a prerequisite to asking a school for help and does not replace the school’s work.

For adults, New Mexico’s Higher Education Department is a starting point for adult education programs. As one concrete option, UNM Los Alamos advertises free classes, materials and tutoring, including reading, writing and math, for eligible adults and out-of-school youth age 16 and older with below-college-level skills. Confirm eligibility and current arrangements with the center; this is not an all-ages tutoring entitlement.

IEP parent guidance has separate pricing and purpose

The separate SER IEP phone consultation is $29.95 for 30 minutes. It addresses parent questions rather than providing an academic tutoring session. IEP Momentum is a separate membership with its own pricing, resources and call-credit terms; it is not included automatically in tutoring or the one-time consultation.

If the question is about parent guidance rather than instruction, compare those routes on the IEP support page. Do not assume an IEP, diagnosis or membership pays for private tutoring. This New Mexico site makes no state-program, insurance or school-district reimbursement promise.

Choose the smallest commitment that answers your need

Identify the task first: an occasional homework question, an ongoing academic skill or a parent planning question. Then compare who teaches, how the service works, the total commitment and how you will judge whether it is useful. A lower price alone does not tell you whether the service matches that task.
