You can ask for academic support as an adult without framing your goals around a child’s school experience. Start with the reading, writing or math tasks that matter to you.
Choose a goal you can describe
You might want to understand written information more confidently, revisit a foundational math skill or approach course assignments with a clearer plan. Tell us what you are working toward and what previous instruction has been like.
These are illustrative academic goals, not guarantees of employment, a credential or a particular test result. The consultation helps clarify whether Special Ed Resource’s online tutoring is a suitable route.
Discuss format, privacy and educator fit
Instruction is live, one-on-one and online, with tutors certified in special education. Ask about the academic subject, your learning goals and the practical arrangements that would help you participate.
Your preferences should guide whether another person joins a conversation. Do not send personal medical records through a general website inquiry. A specific diagnosis should not be used to assume what you can or cannot learn.
Compare public and community options
Private tutoring is not the only route. New Mexico’s Higher Education Department provides an adult-education starting point. Local programs can have their own eligibility, enrollment and attendance requirements.
For example, UNM Los Alamos offers an Adult Learning Center, Literacy Volunteers Santa Fe offers adult literacy support, and Total Literacy Clovis describes free one-on-one adult reading, writing and computer help. College tutoring centers may be limited to their students. Check with the program before assuming access.
Separate instruction from accommodations and credentials
Academic tutoring is not a clinical evaluation and does not issue a high-school-equivalency or college credential. If you need accommodations in a college course or examination, contact the relevant institution or testing body about its own process.
Bring your practical questions to the tutoring consultation. An individualized starting plan comes later through discovery and instructional work, not as an automatic result of the first call.
