Autistic learners do not all need the same lesson, pace or support. A tutoring conversation should begin with the person, their academic goals and what helps them take part.
Make the learning goal specific
Reading, math and written schoolwork can call for different kinds of instruction. Tell us what the learner already enjoys or understands and where the task becomes difficult. A diagnosis alone does not establish an academic level.
An illustrative goal might be explaining the meaning of a passage rather than only reading its words. Another learner might want to show the steps in a math solution. These examples are starting points for a conversation, not a standard program or promise.
Participation belongs in the discussion
Share communication preferences, helpful routines and how the learner indicates that an explanation is unclear. Information from the learner and family helps an educator consider the teaching approach.
Our online format involves live one-on-one instruction. Discuss any assistance needed with setup or participation. We do not assume screen-based learning fits every learner, and we do not promise support for a specific access method before checking the educator and format.
Work with existing knowledge
If the learner has school goals or accommodations that are helpful, you can discuss them during the appropriate private conversation. There is no reason to put detailed IEP records or medical information in a public inquiry field.
Private tutoring does not change an IEP or replace the school team’s work. Parent questions about preparing for a meeting belong in the separate IEP support pathway.
Academic tutoring, not autism treatment
Special Ed Resource tutors are certified in special education. This service is not ABA, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy or a diagnostic evaluation. We do not promise to treat autism or guarantee behavior changes.
The free tutoring consultation can help you understand the process. Later discovery, educator matching and introductory instruction inform a starting plan for the individual learner.
