Special Ed Resource offers live one-on-one online special education tutoring for Albuquerque learners, from preschool through adulthood. We do not have an Albuquerque office. Use this guide to separate additional academic instruction from preschool evaluation, school support and in-person tutoring.
For a preschool concern, know the APS Child Find route
If you are concerned about a young child’s development, a tutoring search may not answer your first question. Albuquerque Public Schools describes preschool screening and evaluation through Child Find for district-resident children age three to younger than kindergarten age. Its page explains the specific age cutoff and how to contact the team; APS states that these screenings, evaluations and services are at no cost.
Private preschool tutoring is a different choice: additional academic learning, not a developmental evaluation or a decision about school services. You do not need to arrange a paid tutoring consultation before contacting APS. If your address or school arrangement falls outside APS, ask the responsible district for its own route rather than assuming the Albuquerque city name settles eligibility.
For a school-age learner, separate instruction from school questions
A child may need more practice with a particular reading or math skill while also receiving useful support at school. Start by identifying what already helps. For an APS student’s evaluation, IEP or school-service question, the school team and district special education resources are the appropriate contacts.
For optional tutoring, describe an academic task rather than asking a tutor to resolve a school decision. An illustrative example is a learner who can explain a math idea aloud but needs help recording the steps. That observation can inform instruction; it is not a diagnosis or evidence that the school has failed.

Our tutors are certified in special education. The free tutoring consultation explores the learner’s goals and the online format. If you continue, discovery and educator matching lead to introductory instructional work and a starting plan reviewed with the family. The first call is not a completed assessment or a guaranteed educator assignment.
Tutoring is private academic instruction, not therapy, a school evaluation or a district-affiliated service. A specific subject, method and schedule must be confirmed during matching. If your main question concerns preparing for an IEP meeting, the separate IEP support page explains that route; it is not included in a tutoring inquiry.
If you need someone in the room, compare local delivery
Some Albuquerque families want a tutor physically present. Independent in-home and center-based providers exist in the metro area; if physical presence is essential, confirm the actual delivery area, educator experience, fees and current openings with any provider you consider.
Our instruction is online only. If physical presence is essential, that difference matters more than a city label in a search result. For online sessions, discuss how the learner will see materials, communicate answers and receive any nearby adult help needed to participate. Neither format alone guarantees a good educator match.
Prepare one useful example, not a complete history
