Make the reading question more specific
Bring one short, recent example to the appropriate private conversation. For instance, a learner might explain a story when someone reads it aloud but need help reading unfamiliar words independently. This is an illustrative situation, not a diagnostic sign or an actual student story.
The point is to give the educator something concrete to explore. Avoid labeling every difficult written assignment as the same reading problem or assuming that one advertised method is right for every person.
- Word reading: which part needed help, and what happened when help was offered?
- Spelling: was the learner working independently, copying or responding to prompts?
- Understanding: could the learner explain the meaning in their own words?
- Written work: was the obstacle forming letters, choosing words or organizing an idea?
