How Special Ed Resource can fit

Special Ed Resource offers private online tutoring and individualized learning-plan support for homeschool families. Our tutors are certified in special education. Discovery explores the learner’s strengths, current work, interests and the support the family wants.

Matching and introductory instructional work inform a starting plan for discussion. Explain whether you need help with a particular academic skill, materials or how instruction is organized. Do not assume every curriculum-planning task is included in a tutoring arrangement before confirming its scope.

Define the job before choosing the schedule

A useful homeschool conversation separates the academic task from the responsibilities of running the overall program. You may want help teaching a concept, understanding a starting point or supplementing practice in one subject.

Illustrative example: a family continues its existing curriculum but seeks focused reading instruction. The discussion can identify the reading question, relevant materials and how the proposed work would fit alongside the family’s plan. This is an example, not a promise of compatibility with every curriculum.

• What is the family already teaching?
• Which specific task needs additional instruction?
• What would the tutor be responsible for?
• What would remain with the parent or other provider?
• How will the family discuss the proposed plan and practical arrangements?

New Mexico notification is a separate responsibility

NMPED describes home schooling as a parent-operated home study program and provides its official notification system and paper form. Use that state resource for current requirements and procedures.

Booking private tutoring does not submit a home-school notification, register your family with NMPED or transfer operation of the homeschool to Special Ed Resource. This site does not offer an accredited school, diploma or state approval.

Check school-service questions before changing placement

If your child has an IEP or receives public-school services, discuss the effect of a proposed schooling change with the district and consult current official guidance. Do not assume the same services continue automatically after withdrawal or that a private tutoring plan replaces a school IEP.

A national article about homeschool benefits cannot answer a New Mexico placement or entitlement question for your family. Our IEP support page links to state resources and explains private parent guidance separately. This page does not determine your child’s rights or funding eligibility.

Keep useful information from your current routine

Make a short note of what already works: materials the learner understands, explanations that help and when assistance is needed. An educator can use that context rather than presume a new curriculum is always the answer.

Include the learner’s preferences and strengths. Homeschooling is not automatically better or worse for every learner, and tutoring is not a reason by itself to leave a school setting that is working.

Confirm subject scope, educator fit and current commercial terms before proceeding. For detailed records, use an appropriate private sharing process; keep IEPs and sensitive student information out of public inquiry fields.
